What ꘑ means
Use a Unicode hex method; enter A611 as one character.
What does ꘑ mean?
It is an early Vai sign for the syllable ka.
The Vai script's beginning is usually placed around 1832–1833, though its exact date is uncertain. A manuscript from 1834 is identified as the earliest surviving example in the historical study. The Book of Ndole, composed before 1849, preserves early forms in which one spoken syllable could have more than one written sign.
Several speakers developed the Vai script to write the Vai language, teach reading, exchange letters, support trade, and keep records. Arabic and Latin writing were part of the wider literate setting. Scholars debate whether the Cherokee syllabary, a writing system for the Cherokee language, influenced Vai's development; that debate does not establish that ꘑ was copied from a Cherokee sign.
