What ꕐ means
It writes the Vai syllable “pa.”
Meaning comes from the surrounding Vai text.
Vai writing took shape in Liberia around 1833 through Momolu Duwalu Bukele and associates. A sample survives from 1834; the Book of Ndole, a Vai manuscript, dates to around 1845. Vai writing served letters and records, then religious translations and community histories across western Liberia and eastern Sierra Leone. Its model influenced Mende, Loma and Kpelle syllabaries; whether the Cherokee script influenced Vai is disputed.
