What ꕑ means
It represents one spoken syllable in Vai.
The Vai script developed in Liberia in the 1830s, with Mọmọlu Duwalu Bukẹlẹ credited as its principal creator. Its earliest known sample dates to 1834; the Book of Ndole, a manuscript from about 1845, preserves an early form.
Vai writing served correspondence and record-keeping, especially among merchants. Schools widened its use; reforms in 1899 and 1962 changed its forms.
