What ꔴ means
It writes one Vai syllable; the word gives it meaning.
“Thi” is Unicode’s label, not a word.
Reports from 1834 place the script’s start around 1832 or 1833; a fuller account appeared in 1849. Momolu Duwalu Bukele led its development and later said a dream inspired it. Possible Latin, Arabic, Cherokee and pictographic influences remain debated. Older texts used logograms for words or meanings. The script served trade correspondence, ledgers, histories, tales and association rules; its syllabic design influenced Mende, Loma and Kpelle, and may have influenced Bamum and Bamana.
