What 󠆢 means
In 2003, Unicode proposals connected supplementary selectors to a Han-text problem: plain text sometimes needs a specific glyph without turning every shape into a separate character. Scholars, governments, and publishers may require different sets of acceptable Han forms, so the Ideographic Variation Database registers base-character-plus-selector pairs within collections. Its first collection was registered in 2007. The same selector can point to unrelated variants after different base characters.

Questions people ask
1Why does 󠆢 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Variation Selectors Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
