Variation Selector-180

164/240

VS180 is one of the selectors used in an ideographic variation sequence (IVS): a pair of Unicode characters that requests a registered written form of a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean ideograph. By itself, it has no visible shape or message.

Text symbol

What 󠆣 means

Only as part of a valid, supported ideograph-selector pair. The sequence keeps the same encoded character but identifies a more specific written shape. The base must be a unified ideograph used in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean writing, the exact pair must be registered in the Ideographic Variation Database, and the font or app must support it. Otherwise, the base appears as usual and VS180 stays invisible; adding it at random will not change a font style.

Why does 󠆣 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
