What 󠆸 means
It stays invisible; a supported pair changes the base glyph.
An ideographic variation sequence (IVS) places this selector after an ideograph—a written character such as a Chinese hanzi or Japanese kanji—to request a glyph, the character’s drawn form. That lets text preserve a particular kanji variant, another form of the same character, without adding a visible mark.
Does VS201 choose one fixed glyph?
No; its meaning depends on the ideograph and registered collection.
The Ideographic Variation Database (IVD) associates each registered pair with a glyph set. The same selector can request different forms after different ideographs, and collections group pairs for different purposes.
IVS lets text specify a form without making it a separate character. In Japanese names and place names, the exact kanji shape can be part of the requested spelling.
A technical text control; its glyph request lives in the complete registered pair.
Don’t attach it at random: only a registered pair has a dependable glyph reading.
