What 󠇤 means
It can request a specific form for a preceding Han character. Han characters appear as Chinese characters, Japanese kanji, and Korean hanja. In an ideographic variation sequence (IVS), the base character—the Han character before the selector—and a registered selector identify a particular glyph, or drawing, of that same character. This can preserve the intended form of a personal or place name. The selector has no universal variant of its own; the exact pair defines the form.
Why is Variation Selector 245 invisible?
It has no visible glyph of its own. When the exact IVS is registered and supported for display, the base character can appear in the requested form. If the pair is invalid or unsupported, the selector is ignored and the base appears as usual. The selector can still be present in the text even when the line looks unchanged.
