What ꀙ means
ꀙ writes the Liangshan Yi syllable spelled “bip.” In Yi Pinyin, final “p” marks low-falling pitch, not a consonant; the sound is roughly English “bee” with the voice falling.
One Yi origin tradition credits Aki with creating the script during the Tang era (618–907); the oldest surviving dated example is a bronze-bell inscription from 1485. Earlier forms served ritual, magical, medical, and family-history texts. Devised in 1974 and official in 1980, the Liangshan standard recast selected signs as syllables for literacy, schooling, and publications. It represents one Yi variety. Related older Cuan/Wei writing traditions varied; Yi writing appears independent of Chinese characters. A box signals missing Yi coverage.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꀙ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
