What ꉾ means
It writes one Nuosu syllable.
Yi Pinyin spells Liangshan Yi in Latin letters; no tone suffix on he marks a steady middle pitch.
Traditional Yi writing (Cuan or Wei) comprised local scripts for religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts. A tradition credits Aki with creating it during the Tang dynasty; the oldest surviving example is a 1485 bronze-bell inscription. The signs appear not to derive from Han (Chinese) characters. The standardized Liangshan syllabary adapts those signs for Nuosu, not every Yi variety, and was officially promulgated in 1980.
