What ꆦ means

In standardized Nuosu Yi, ꆦ is glossed “exchange” or “change.”

This gloss belongs to standardized Liangshan Nuosu, one branch among varied Yi writing traditions.

The Yi script’s history includes reported early forms on pottery, stone, bronze, and bone. Dated monuments include examples from 1485–1592, and paper manuscripts date to around 1500. Yi ritual specialists called bimo preserved ritual, medical, genealogical, and origin knowledge in writing. The Liangshan Nuosu standard was established in 1974 and 1980. Cuan wen and bimo wen name older or local Yi writing contexts, not readings of ꆦ.
