Text symbol

What ꂡ means

It means to push air out through the mouth.

Nuosu is the Liangshan variety of Yi. Say Yi Pinyin hmo with an m made without voice, followed by o; no final tone letter means level mid pitch.

Traditional Yi, also called Cuan or Wei, varied by region; bimo priests used its word signs in religious, medical, and family-history texts. Tradition credits Aki with devising it in the Tang dynasty (618–907); the oldest surviving inscription dates to 1485. The Liangshan syllabary was standardized in 1974 and issued in 1980 for Nuosu, not all Yi varieties. Yi writing took shape in a Chinese writing culture, but its glyphs appear not to descend directly from Han characters.
