What ꐥ means
It writes one spoken syllable in Yi script.
Yi writing is syllabic: each sign represents a spoken syllable. ꐥ belongs inside Nuosu words and sentences; its meaning comes from the surrounding text.
Unicode identifies a bronze-bell inscription from 1485 as the earliest surviving Yi-script example. Before modern standardization, some village priests used local Yi forms for religious, magical, medical, and family-history texts. The Liangshan standard for Nuosu, a Yi language, was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980. It drew on older Northern Yi forms, a regional Yi writing tradition, rather than Chinese characters.
