What ꐤ means
It is one written syllable in standardized Liangshan Yi. The spelling jjox is Yi Pinyin, a Latin-letter system for spelling Yi syllables. Its final x marks tone; it is not an English suffix. By itself, ꐤ does not give a full word meaning, so read it in the surrounding Nuosu/Yi text.
How did the modern Yi script take shape?
It grew from local writing traditions before standardization. The earliest evidence is debated. The earliest securely dated surviving example is a bronze-bell inscription from 1485; older claimed artifacts and undated manuscripts leave room for earlier use.
Yi ritual specialists called bimo preserved traditional forms for religious, magical, medical, genealogical, and literary texts, often with local variants. The modern Liangshan form was based on Classical Yi, an older Yi writing tradition; it was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980 to support literacy. Written Sichuan Yi is also used in education, newspapers, public signs, fiction, and video subtitles. Yi writing includes local forms and is not one unified script for every Yi dialect.
Neutral within Yi writing; outside it, its meaning depends on the surrounding Yi text.
