What ꏶ means
It records one spoken syllable, not a complete Yi word. Yi Pinyin, a Latin-letter system for writing Yi syllables, spells this reading jyt; the final t marks a high tone. The spelling gives pronunciation information, not a one-word English gloss. Translate the complete Yi word or sentence.
The earliest surviving Yi-script example is an inscription on a bronze bell dated 1485, though earlier stone and bronze examples from Guizhou have also been claimed. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980; those dates mark a standardized form, not the beginning of Yi writing.
Is ꏶ a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to the Yi writing tradition, not Han Chinese writing. Yi writing is not derived from Han Chinese characters. It is also historically distinct from neighboring Tibetan, Burmese, and Tai scripts.
Local Yi writing traditions included religious, magical, medical, and family-history texts kept by bimo or pimu, Yi specialists who preserved manuscripts. Standardized Liangshan Yi is also used in literacy books, newspapers, schools, novels, public signs, and religious writing. That standard represents one Yi dialect and tradition, not every local Yi form.
Ordinary within Liangshan Yi writing; opaque without Yi.
Alone, it gives a syllable, not a usable translation.
