What ꈈ means
It is ko, a Nuosu syllable, not a fixed English gloss.
Traditional Yi writing varied by region. Pottery, stone, and bronze inscriptions more than 1,000 years old survive; paper texts survive from at least the late Ming dynasty in China. Yi ritual specialists called bimo copied religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980. By 2024, it was used in education, religion, publishing, signs, and subtitles.
