yi syllable ndurx

Yi syllable Ndurx

359/1165

ꅦ belongs to the Liangshan Yi writing system and represents the syllable labeled ndurx in Latin letters. If it arrives by itself, read it as a character sample unless the chat gives a clearer clue. The final x marks tone; entering ndurx produces this glyph only when a Yi input method is active.

Text symbol

What ꅦ means

It writes one Liangshan Yi syllable.

The Latin-letter transcription for it is ndurx; it labels the syllable rather than translating it into English. In the Liangshan standard used for Nuosu Yi, each character represents a syllable. The final x marks secondary-high tone, a pitch pattern, not an x sound. That tone mark distinguishes ꅦ from ꅧ.

What does ꅦ mean when sent alone?

By itself, it looks like a character sample, not a mood cue.

As of 2026-09-12, it had no established standalone reaction meaning. Treat it as someone showing Yi text, checking how a glyph displays, or referring to the character itself unless the surrounding conversation suggests more.

How did the Yi writing tradition develop?

Yi writing grew through local traditions before a modern standard.

The written record is debated. Unicode's account cites a Yi inscription on a bronze bell dated 1485 as its earliest surviving example; proposed earlier stone and bronze finds remain disputed. Traditional Yi writing was preserved chiefly by bimo, Yi ritual specialists, in religious, magical, medical, genealogical, and literary texts.

The Liangshan standard, based on older Northern Yi forms, was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980. Yi writing traditions differ in character shapes, pronunciation, writing direction, and which syllables they represent, so the Liangshan reading is not universal across every Yi variety. The Unicode description says Yi ideographs are not derived from Han (Chinese) characters.

Linguistic and technical: it belongs in Yi text or discussion of Yi writing; alone, it reads as a character sample.

By itself, do not expect it to convey a feeling.
