What ꅢ means
It represents one spoken Liangshan Yi syllable.
Yi Pinyin writes ndut: nd is a nasalized d; final t marks high tone, not an ending consonant.
Traditional Yi writing (Cuan or Wei) varied by region; one account credits Aki with devising it. Bimo, Yi ritual priests, preserved religious, historical, medical, astrological, magical, and genealogical texts. Some scholars link marks on objects from China’s Western Han dynasty to Yi writing, but the reading is uncertain; the oldest secure examples are 15th-century Chenghua bell inscriptions, followed by paper texts around 1500. The standardized Liangshan syllabary was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980. Yi radicals—small dictionary lookup parts—were modeled on Chinese character radicals, but remain Yi-specific.
