What ꁆ means
It represents one syllable in standardized Liangshan Yi writing. “pot” is its romanized label; final t marks a high-level tone, a pitch held high.
A 1485 inscription on a bronze bell is the earliest securely dated witness to Yi writing; claims for earlier origins or artifacts remain disputed. Yi priests copied religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts.
The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980 to widen literacy. It grew from local writing and older literary traditions, but represents Liangshan speech, not every Yi variety.
