What ꑵ means
ꑵ is one spoken Liangshan Yi syllable. The Latin spelling “yiet” labels the sound; final “t” marks a high, steady pitch.
Traditional Yi writing varied by region; ritual specialists used it for religious, medical, historical, and genealogical texts. The oldest reliably dated inscription is on a Guizhou bell from 1485. Devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to improve literacy, the Liangshan character-per-syllable standard regularized older signs for Nuosu, not all Yi varieties.
