arabic kasra with dot below

Arabic Kasra with Dot Below

ࣶ is a kasra-shaped vowel mark with a dot below, used for extra vowel distinctions in some Arabic-script spellings. In one Philippine language it marks open “e” as in “bed,” and African spellings use it too. Samples in a 2010 Unicode proposal include Fula: Macina (1934) and Senegal (1987).

What ࣶ means

It adds a dot and can mark another vowel value.

Plain kasra ِ marks short i in fully vowelled Arabic; ࣶ is a distinct sign for vowel contrasts in other Arabic-script spellings.

Why does ࣶ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
