What 𖦈 means
It is a letter in Phase E of the Bamum script. Bamum writing developed in western Cameroon to record the Bamum language. Across its phases, its signs changed from picture-like forms and signs for whole words toward signs for syllables. The oldest surviving Bamum manuscripts date to around 1897; later revisions reached the modern standard by 1910.
Bamum writing recorded chronicles, laws, maps, medicine and administration. After colonial suppression, the script also became a heritage marker. As of 2026, revival projects teach it and preserve archives.
