What 𖦆 means
It is a letter from Phase E, an earlier stage of Bamum writing.
Bamum writing began around 1897 as Lerewa, an early system developed by King Ibrahim Njoya. Its first signs stood for objects and actions and served partly as memory aids. Across six phases, A through F, the signs were revised and simplified. Borrowing a sign for its sound—a rebus—helped turn the system into a syllabary, where each sign represents a syllable.
Manuscripts from the 1920s and later preserve Phase E. Phase G, called A-ka-u-ku, is the form used for modern Bamum.
How does it fit into Bamum writing?
Use it when representing or discussing Phase-E Bamum. Modern Bamum uses the later Phase-G A-ka-u-ku syllabary.
A reader familiar with Bamum’s earlier writing can place 𖦆 in that history. Without that context, the letter alone does not tell someone which word or feeling you intend.
Historical and specialist: it points to an earlier Bamum writing stage, not a self-explanatory message.
Alone, it gives a recipient no reliable clue which word or feeling you mean.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖦆 appear as a square?
Usually, it is a font-coverage issue. The font or app may lack Bamum Supplement glyphs, so it shows a fallback square instead of the letter. Use a font or app with Bamum Supplement coverage.
