What 𖧺 means
It is a letter from Phase E of the Bamum script. The word “Men” is part of the character’s label, not an English translation; its reading belongs in Bamum linguistic or historical context.
King Ibrahim Njoya’s writing project began around 1896 as a memory aid built from signs for objects and actions. It evolved through successive phases into the Phase G syllabary by 1910. Phase E is an earlier stage of that same system, used in manuscripts for court records, administration, histories, calendars, maps, and other subjects.
Colonial authorities later closed schools and suppressed Bamum writing. Older phases consequently became part of archival and specialist study, while the script also came to serve as a cultural symbol.
Historical and literary; the character fits best in a clearly Bamum linguistic or archival context.
“Men” is a label, not the English word “man.”

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖧺 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Bamum Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
