What ৳ means
Bangladesh's taka, as a rule. You'll typically see it on price tags, receipts, shop websites and bank apps from Bangladesh, usually right before the amount: ৳250 or ৳২৫০ with Bengali digits. In English text the same money is often written Tk 250 or BDT 250, BDT being the international currency code.
The name is older than the country. টাকা (taka) comes from Sanskrit ṭaṅka, a silver coin, and in Bengali it is simply the word for money. Don't use ৳ for Indian prices; most readers will take it as Bangladeshi taka.

Questions people ask
2Is the taka the same as the rupee?
No. The taka is Bangladesh's currency and the rupee is India's. They share a word in Bengali, where taka also means rupee, but they are different money with different values.
Should I write ৳ or Tk?
Either works. ৳ is common in Bengali text and on price tags; Tk or BDT is common in English, and BDT is the code banks use.
