Block Octant 12356

297/686

This block octant is a 2x4 mosaic tile with parts 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 filled. In the early 1980s, Kaypro semigraphics—pictures made from text characters—used such tiles to draw pixel-like images.

What 𜴮 means

It is one piece of character-cell artwork.

On Kaypro computers, software running under CP/M (an early operating system) combined 2x4 tiles to plot pixels in text and draw borders. In a grid with equal-width character cells, each tile acts like a coarse pixel.

Unicode later encoded this character family so newer software could preserve the graphics and emulators—programs that imitate old computers—could display them.
