Horizontal Resistor Segment

𜰉 is a horizontal resistor symbol for text-mode circuit diagrams. It comes from the Sharp MZ Japanese character set; its old machine display code was E3, not a Unicode input value.

What 𜰉 means

A resistor placed horizontally in a text-mode circuit sketch.

A resistor limits current in a circuit. On Sharp MZ computers, the Japanese primary character set was a built-in table of display symbols; E3 was this character's machine code. The MZ-80K appeared in 1978.

Unicode's proposal groups it with schematic parts meant to join light box-drawing characters. Text glyphs could show components and their wires; Unicode preserves this one for conversion and emulation.

Why does 𜰉 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
