left-pointing stick figure

Left-Pointing Stick Figure

𜰂 is a tiny person facing left from Sharp’s MZ-700 display set. It served as ready-made game art; fonts may redraw its original pixel form differently.

What 𜰂 means

A small figure sprite facing left.

By the MZ-700’s 1982 release, its Japanese display table assigned this figure code CB. Built-in character cells gave games ready-made screen graphics.

A 2021 Unicode proposal grouped these designs under “Game sprites” and supplied descriptive names because earlier computer makers usually left individual glyphs unnamed.

Why can the modern drawing differ?

Unicode keeps the character, not the old pixels.

The MZ-700 ROM stored each design as an 8×8 pattern. Unicode identifies the character, while fonts draw its visible glyph; a font without one may show a missing-character box.

Why does 𜰂 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
