What means
A seven-cell tile for computer graphics.
The name lists its filled cells: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. An octant splits one character cell into two columns and four rows.
A 1983 manual for the Kaypro 10, an early personal computer, documents 2-by-4 block graphics. Kaypro computers running CP/M, an operating system, could store such tiles in text files as on/off pixels. Unicode calls the eight-cell grid an “octant,” by analogy with the four-part “quadrant” and six-part “sextant.”
