Block Octant-16

276/686

𜴙 is one tile in Kaypro’s graphics set: “16” names two filled cells in a 24 grid. Programs joined these tiles into pictures on text screens. A box may mean the app or font lacks the glyph.

What 𜴙 means

It built pictures from tiny blocks in text cells. An octant divides a character cell into two columns and four rows. Kaypro CP/M computers joined these tiles as chunky pixels. By the mid-1980s, Kaypro drawing software used them. Kaypro’s normal graphics byte was 0x92; Unicode text uses the mapped character, not the old byte. Unicode carries these patterns into text exchange and emulators.

Questions people ask

1

Why does this symbol appear as a box?

It is likely a font or terminal coverage gap. Ratatui’s 2026 terminal docs describe octant support as less widespread than Braille; other apps and fonts can differ.
