What means
In Windows Word, type 1CDC9 then press AltX (as of September 2026).
That enters a two-column, four-row tile with spots 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 filled. Place tiles together for terminal graphics, pixel art, or a chart.
What is this grid pattern for?
Kaypro computers used it to draw pictures inside text cells.
Each character cell held eight spots that software switched on or off, letting a program draw shapes without controlling each screen pixel. The Kaypro 10 guide documents this method in 1983. Unicode's 2021 proposal mapped the Kaypro patterns so old character data could be converted to Unicode and back with its graphics intact.

1Questions people ask
1Why does this character show as a blank box?
A blank or replacement box means your font or terminal is not drawing this character. Support varies as of September 2026; some terminal emulators draw mosaic glyphs themselves.
