What ㆩ means
It gives the “a” vowel a nasal sound. Bopomofo is a phonetic alphabet; pronunciation guides may write ㆩ as ann or aⁿ.
The Taiwanese Bopomofo extension was developed in 1946; added letters for Minnan (including Taiwanese Hokkien) and Hakka sounds were designed in 1948. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education published the system in 1998 for pronunciation notes and clear plain-text spelling of local varieties. ㆩ derives from ㄚ; in ㄙㆩ, it supplies the final vowel.
If you know only the basic Mandarin Zhuyin set, ㆩ may be unfamiliar: it belongs to the Taiwanese extension.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ㆩ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
