What 剷 means
It names the act of scraping material away or leveling it. In Mandarin, 剷 is read chǎn. In the Tang dynasty, Liu Zongyuan used it for cutting weeds; Du Mu used it for abolishing troops. Taiwanese Hokkien (Taigi) uses 剷 in 剷草, meaning “hoe weeds,” pronounced thuánn-tsháu.
The related form 剗 appears in 詛楚文, a Qin stone inscription asking the gods to punish the rival state of Chu. The original stone is lost; the inscription’s date and authenticity are debated, though its script fits the middle-to-late Warring States period, when Qin and other states competed for rule.

Questions people ask
1Why does 剷 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
