What 堲 means
堲 is the legacy encoding form of 堲.
Taiwan’s CNS 11643 grew from two to seven planes in 1992. Unicode’s supplement preserves mappings from planes 3–7 and 15 to allow conversion back to that character set. A plane is a numbered section.
The early dictionary Shuowen Jiezi records 堲 as an old form of 垐, for adding earth to a road. The Book of Documents uses 堲 for “to hate”; the Book of Rites, a ritual text, records 堲周, bricks of fired earth around a coffin.
