What 廊 means
It represents 廊, a character for corridors and galleries.
An added entry in the Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, glosses 廊 as the east and west side galleries of a hall. The character appears in Mandarin 走廊 (“corridor”), Japanese 廊下 (ろうか, rōka; “hallway”), and Korean 화랑 (畵廊, “art gallery”).
This form comes from CNS 11643-1992, plane 6, code T6-5240; Unicode retained it for round-trip conversion. Canonical normalization maps it to 廊. Unicode also records U+5ECA U+FE01 as its glyph-variant sequence.
Questions people ask
1Why does 廊 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
