What 扝 means
It belongs to 扜, a written character for directing or signaling.
Taiwan’s education ministry groups this variant under 扜. Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary (around 100 CE), glosses 扜 as directing; the ancient geography-and-myth text Shanhaijing uses it for drawing a bow; the later Yupian dictionary adds holding.
Unicode keeps its CNS 5-226E code for travel to and from CNS 11643-1992. Normalization (standard text cleanup) maps 扝 to 扝.
Technical written variant.
The Taiwan CNS record (2024) says Windows 7–11 lack the glyph by default; a box usually means missing font support.

Questions people ask
1Why does 扝 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
