What 㫤 means
It is a legacy code for 㫤, not a new word.
TF-2B38 is its source label in plane 15 (a numbered section) of Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992 character set. Unicode keeps that slot so text can convert to CNS, then back, without losing the source entry.
Taiwan’s 2024 variant-character dictionary links 㫤 with 昶. A Ming-era family history by Gui Youguang says the Ming emperor Yongle reshaped 昶 into 㫤 for calligrapher Xia Chang, putting 日 (“sun”) above 永.
Will normalization preserve 㫤?
No; Unicode normalization resolves it to 㫤.
Unicode also defines 㫤︀ (㫤 followed by invisible UFE00, a variation selector) as the standardized variant sequence. The selector requests the specific glyph form.

Questions people ask
1Why does 㫤 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
