What 犕 means
It is a compatibility form of 犕, kept for text conversion. Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992, a Chinese-character interchange standard, has a separate source entry for this form. Its separate Unicode code point lets data move between the standard and Unicode without merging the source entry.
Why does it change to 犕?
Unicode normalization replaces 犕 with 犕. Normalization is software’s way of giving equivalent Unicode text a consistent form. Here, it removes the separate code point.
To preserve the distinction through normalization, use the standardized sequence 犕︀: 犕 followed by variation selector UFE00. Normalization leaves this two-character sequence intact.

Questions people ask
1Why does 犕 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
