What 𤜵 means
To preserve its separate place in a legacy character set.
Taiwan’s 1992 CNS 11643 character-encoding standard assigned it a separate position in plane 6. Unicode retains the entry so conversion from that standard into Unicode and back preserves it. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, records the older sense; Taiwan’s Ministry of Education lists 𤜵 as a variant of 𤜵.
Text normalization—a cleanup step that standardizes equivalent text—can turn 𤜵 into 𤜵. The Unicode 18.0 chart also registers 𤜵 followed by variation selector UFE00 as a standardized glyph variant; the font must support it to show that form.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𤜵 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
