What 𤠔 means
It is a historical written form of 猿, “ape.”
The Kangxi Dictionary’s 1716 entry cites 字彙, an earlier Chinese character dictionary: 𤠔 is a nonstandard form of 猿, described as an ape with long arms that climbs trees.
Why does Unicode normalize 𤠔 to 𤠔?
Normalization maps it to 𤠔.
Unicode 18.0 records Taiwan source T6-4B42 under 𪻅; the canonical mapping remains 𤠔. Normalizing text can erase the distinct code point when exact source provenance matters.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𤠔 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
