What 羕 means
It preserves a Taiwan CNS 11643 character mapping.
On Eastern Zhou bronze vessels, inscriptions sometimes use 羕 for 永 (“forever”) in wishes that descendants keep the vessel for generations. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary compiled in 100 CE, defines 羕 literally as “water running long.”
The CNS 11643-1992 standard keeps this form for round-trip conversion. Unicode normalization changes 羕 to 羕, so the separate code-point distinction disappears; use 羕 in ordinary writing and reserve this form for data that must preserve the CNS mapping.

Questions people ask
1Why does 羕 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
