What 翺 means
It is the CNS form of 翺, a character meaning “to soar.”
Unicode reserves it for round-trip conversion with CNS 11643-1992; Taiwan’s record lists it as CNS 15-5727, from household-registration data.
Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese character dictionary from the Han dynasty, completed in 121 CE, glosses 翺 as “soaring.” It uses 羽 (“feathers/wings”) for meaning and 皐 for sound. Shijing, an early Chinese poetry collection, pairs it with 翔, another flying verb.
A conversion-preservation form.
NFKC (compatibility text normalization) folds 翺 into 翺.

Questions people ask
1Why does 翺 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
