What 蓳 means
It preserves a character from Taiwan’s CNS 11643 set. The Taiwan database lists it in plane 7, one section of that standard’s character set, and labels it a national-character variant. Unicode maps it to 蓳 as its canonical equivalent. A separate code lets the source character travel into Unicode and back without losing its code; normalization later folds it to 蓳.
The mapped character 蓳, read jǐn in Mandarin, is an old plant name. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, describes its roots as like shepherd’s purse and its leaves as like a slender willow; the plant was eaten steamed.
How can I preserve its exact glyph?
Use the standardized variation sequence. Unicode defines 蓳︀ (蓳 followed by UFE00) as this form’s variation sequence. It survives normalization and requests the glyph distinction when the font supports it; it preserves the appearance, not the original one-character code point.
As of 2026, Taiwan’s CNS11643 database reports that Windows’ default fonts lack 蓳; its Full Character Library package supplies a matching font and input tools. Without a font that supports the character or sequence, it may appear as a missing-glyph box.

Questions people ask
1Why does 蓳 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

蓳\2F9A9Why is 蓳 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
Codes and encoding1 code points
A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
