What 蜨 means
In Chinese, 蜨 names a butterfly.
The Han-era Shuowen Jiezi (completed around 100 CE) defines 蜨 as “butterfly”; a Qing-era note says 蝶 became the common spelling. Zhengzitong (1671) records a local sea-crab sense in Zhangzhou and Quanzhou.
Taiwan’s CNS 11643 is a character-code standard; it lets text convert to and from Unicode without losing its source mapping. Normalization turns 蜨 into 蜨. The sequence 蜨︀ (蜨 UFE00, VARIATION SELECTOR-1) keeps its glyph through normalization where supported.

Questions people ask
1Why does 蜨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
