What 起 means
Its reading and everyday sense are those of 起.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Education lists this as a mistaken variant of 起 and cites it in 字鑑, a Yuan-era character dictionary. Its note traces confusion among the similar-looking forms 巳, 己, and 已 to Han clerical writing, an early Chinese script style. Shuowen Jiezi, a Han-era character dictionary, glosses 起 as “able to stand.” The CNS source code is 6-3C3B.
Keep it in source-faithful records; ordinary Chinese writing uses 起.
