What 鋘 means
It is the compatibility code for 鋘.
Older Chinese dictionaries record 鋘 for a two-edged farm spade, a plasterer’s trowel, and—in 錕鋘, also written 錕鋙—a legendary mountain and sword.
Unicode maps 鋘 to 鋘 and to source slot T6-634F in Taiwan’s CNS 11643-1992 character-encoding standard. It entered Unicode in 2001 to preserve that slot when converted back.
Why does 鋘 turn into 鋘?
Normalization merges them.
NFC, NFD, NFKC, and NFKD all change 鋘 to 鋘. Unicode’s standardized sequence U92D8 UFE00 preserves the distinction through normalization; a supporting font is needed to show its distinct glyph.

Questions people ask
1Why does 鋘 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
