What 憎 means
Use Unicode hex input with FA89, if your device supports it.
Typing 憎 selects its own code point instead; Unicode maps the two characters together, but FA89 preserves the KP1-43FF source entry.
What does 憎 mean?
It carries 憎’s sense of hate or loathing.
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean use of 憎 shares that core sense, though each language has its own reading and ordinary written forms. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary, records this sense by 121 CE. North Korea’s KPS 10721-2000 character standard assigns the source entry the identifier KP1-43FF. FA89 lets text converted from that standard into Unicode—the system used to represent text across devices—and back retain the source entry. That is encoding history, not a separate emotional shade.
Technical and archival: FA89 marks a source-encoding distinction, not a stronger emotion.
Use 憎 for ordinary writing; reserve 憎 for source-specific fidelity.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 憎 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Compatibility Ideographs block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
