What ⺳ means
It marks a net component in character references. Radicals are components used to sort or describe characters.
An older Chinese net sign pictured crossed cords for fishing and hunting; the early Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi records this use. Later senses include networks and entrapment. 罔 adds 亡 (“lost”); 網 adds 糸, the silk/thread radical.
Dictionary and character-analysis notation; alone, it signals a reference context.

2Questions people ask
1Why does ⺳ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Radicals Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
