What ㇓ means
It marks the vertical-left-falling stroke type. Chinese calls it 竖撇, “vertical then left-falling.” It is the first stroke of 月, “moon” or “month.”
The stroke predates its Unicode label. Hong Kong's Supplementary Character Set (an encoding standard) included 16 stroke symbols; a 2006 proposal to expand Unicode's set listed 20 more, including SP. As of 2026, some fonts make ㇓ resemble or 丿.
A technical label for describing and indexing Han-character strokes.

3Questions people ask
1Why does ㇓ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Strokes block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
