What 𪅏 means
The Erya, an early dictionary, distinguishes 鷇 (fed young) from 雛 (a self-feeding chick). Shuowen Jiezi, an early character dictionary, records 𪅏 with the 鷇 sense. The Han-dynasty Fangyan, a regional-word list, records 鷇 for sparrow young and chicks in the ancient regions called Northern Yan, Chaoxian and Lieshui. In Yanzi Chunqiu, a story collection, Duke Jing of Qi returns a weak sparrow nestling; adviser Yan Zi says rulers should care for people as well as young birds.
